An Organ of Old

Musicians are an assorted bunch: vocalists and songwriters, lyricists and horn players, cellists and pianists, backup singers and guitarists, percussionists and drummers, conductors and directors and leaders… But I’ve never really known an organist. Funny, because I practically grew up in Spivey Hall, singing with the Spivey Hall Children’s Choir beneath the magnificent centerpiece that is the great recital hall’s pipe organ. Last month, I was invited to photograph Spivey Hall’s new organist-in-residence, Alan Morrison, on that same stage, beneath those same pipes, where we had an hour to play with lights and shapes and a little bit of freelensing…

There’s nothing as soothing
to the soul,
than the tones
of an organ of old.
