Like most photographers, my work is booked in time blocks – 1 hour, 2 hours, 8 hours… but those numbers can be squishy, especially if I’m not juggling back-to-back appointments. With this family, I’m so glad I opened myself up to an extra 20 minutes. Without that time we wouldn’t have made it to the creek: where the soft light was creeping in, and the kidlet was enamored by the water, and the dog was energized by the smells.
The neighborhoods we choose to live in say so much about us – about what we value, about what enriches our souls. Catherine and Lance’s home near the creek deserved to be documented. I think they live in a place that will stick to their hearts and their bones long after they’ve moved on. The next time you are photographed, be photographed in a place you love.
