Delana & Mikael got married the day after my birthday. As their celebration approached, I knew it would be an odd weekend for me: newly divorced, ominously in love, and feeling simultaneously too old and too young for all of the above, my birthday felt less like a gleaming mile marker and more like a banana peel on the sidewalk. But as my Photofolk tend to do, Delana & Mikael injected a little dose of magic into an otherwise uncomfortable summer. I think it was their tenderness toward one another that invited me to relax, settle in, and make images that felt yummy in my soul. They gave me permission to play with the light and experiment with the location and have a glass of wine while I was at it. What emerged is a series of photographs that make me smile, make me sigh, and make me ever-so-grateful to have shared my birthday weekend with two such lovely humans.
